In this blog we’re discussing Netflix, one of the most popular sources for home entertainment that has been around for 25 years. But just encase you don’t know what Netflix is, Netflix Inc. is an American subscription streaming service and production company based in Los Gatos, California. From new to old movies, TV shows, documentaries and more. Netflix offers a massive collection of streaming content, just about any genre you can imagine. With the entire world staying at home during the dreaded covid-19 era, the popularity of Netflix has undoubtedly increased. But we’re actually not here to talk about Netflix from a viewer’s perspective. We’re here to discuss how to audition for Netflix.
The first thing to discuss is your “why”. If you have been dreaming of becoming an actor and your reason is for fame, and fortune your Hollywood journey will be one filled with major disappointment. The reason why you want to be an actor should be because it’s your passion. While there is nothing actually wrong with aspiring to be rich and famous, these should not be the main or only reasons why you want to be an actor. Your burning desire for artistic expression as an actor should be the main reason why you want to be an actor. We all need to eat, we all need a decent place to live, clothes and other materialistic things to live a happy life, and a career driven by passion will help you get everything you need in life and provide you with lifelong happiness. Ok, so now that we have lectured you good and proper. Let’s get back to how to audition for Netflix.
There are multiple types of movie and TV productions in Hollywood. Perhaps you have auditioned for one of them or given it some thought. Well, if Netflix is one that you want to pursue, there are 4 different ways you can get on Netflix. The first one is you can book a principal role on a Netflix original. The second is you can become an extra on a Netflix show or movie. Perhaps you can get on a Netflix reality show. Then there is the option of booking a show or movie that streams on Netflix, even though it isn’t a Netflix original. Now, if you’re fairly new to acting you may not know the difference in all these roles and you’re probably scratching your head in confusion because you haven’t the slightest idea where to start.
Well, let’s break down the roles. Generally, a principal actor is someone with a speaking role on camera. This classification can mean different things depending on the type production (commercials have different rules than movies and TV shows) or the contract an actor is working under. An extra is a performer in a film, television show, stage, musical, opera, or ballet production who appears in a non-speaking or non-singing capacity, usually in the background. Reality TV shows are programming that documents purportedly unscripted real-life situations, often starring unfamiliar people rather than professional actors. There is a lot more to cover and thankfully actor Makayla Lysiak’s YouTube video will guide you through the rest.
When we think of the characteristics of an action movie star, the number one thing we can all agree on and automatically visualize is someone with huge muscles, and rugged good looks. If we’re to take a look back in time and shine our proverbial spotlight on action movie heroes of the past. The most memorable is Arnold Schwarzenegger, an Austrian born American actor, businessman, filmmaker and politician.
